The Level 5 Operations/Departmental Manager Apprenticeship Standard

The way that Level 5 Operational/Departmental Manager Apprenticeship work has recently changed since the apprenticeship transformations. This has involved phasing out the previous ‘frameworks’ type of apprenticeship by 2020. They are being replaced with ‘employer-designed’ standards, commonly called ‘trailblazers’.

These standards enable employers to have more flexibility with how they provide the ‘on-programme’ stage (on-the-job and off-the-job training and assessment). They do need to provide the knowledge, skills and behaviours via quality checks, but these can be achieved through a mix of qualifications, resources and employer- or provider-designed support materials. This will mean the programme will be bespoke, matching the needs of the employer.

The Level 5 Operational/Departmental Manager Apprenticeship is one of the trailblazer standards – but it’s not the only course that can provide these.
